Outreach efforts for By the Numbers DFW at #NAHJ2026 created incredible opportunities!

With a goal to learn, share the project, and find as many current and former journalists whose careers have ever touched North Texas, we attended #NAHJ2026 in New Orleans.

NAHJ did not disappoint! It was a positive experience and a productive setting for sharing By the Numbers: Understanding the Impact and Progress of Latino Journalists in North Texas. We met so many individuals, found former North Texas-based journalists now working in bigger markets, and connected with a room full of media organization representatives who gave us their time.

The exhibitor hall provided access to national news organizations such as the Wall Street Journal, NPR, SciLine, Los Angeles Times, New York Times, ESPN/Disney, Scripps, and the American Heart Association.

Between our two student ambassadors and me, we talked to as many organizations as we could — building relationships, engaging representatives, and seeking future support to share the project with past and present North Texas-based Latino journalists.

We encountered real interest and encouragement, both for the student ambassadors attending their first conference and for the early stages of this project overall.

This trip and experience was made possible by the project's supporters. To everyone at NAHJ and at home supporting in all the other ways — thank you!
